How do you format?

There are so many different resources for learning today including Sibelius, Garageband, Quicktime, ScreenFlow, iBooks Author/iBooks, Hype, numerous widgets, Animations in Keynote and the list just goes on and on. However with so many different resources, it is vital that formatting follows similar procedures to allow access for numerous students and teachers.

In Sibelius and GarageBand, (applications designed for composing and notating), there are numerous benefits including the ability to export audio from both applications, converting MIDI to mp3 files, embedding audio (e.g. Soundcloud), converting audio (which is quite vital e.g. wav files to mp3 files as wav files are uncompressed, larger and more detailed ie. smoother curves) and converting to iTunes.

Video formatting can now be as simple as screen recording on iPhones and does exactly what the name states; it records anything that is shown on your screen. Other video formatting skills include embedding videos (e.g. Youtube, Vimeo), converting videos, adding a webcam camera to record yourself in the corner and much more. Programs include Screen Flow and Quicktime.

Sourcing images is also important and can be done through CC (Creative Commons on google), revising and converting images using Preview or creating nice graphics through Keynote, Tiny Scanner or Adobe.

There are also programs which combine all aspects of music, audio, graphics/photos and videos into one such as iBooks Author/iBooks, Hype, Widgets (Hype, Bookry, iAd Producer), Book Creator and Animations in Keynote. These programs can help create excellent resources for any topic and any subject.

There is also a constant battle between Windows vs Apple as it seems that Apple is gaining popularity but can be more troublesome as it is not compatible with Windows so it is recommended to have skills of both. Which do you use and/or prefer? Let me know!
